The Majority of Hispanic Voters Remain Democrat but Think President Biden Should Be Replaced as Candidate

A recent study by FIU’s Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom and Adsmovil reveals new insights on Hispanic voters after the Presidential Debate.

MIAMI, FL – July 18, 2024 – Adsmovil, a digital-first Hispanic media company, in collaboration with Florida International University’s (FIU) Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom and Latino Public Opinion Forum, hosted a webinar titled “The Hispanic Voter 2024: The Scoop” in which they revealed research findings of their latest study aimed to illuminate the increasing influence of Hispanic voters in the upcoming 2024 election. Projections indicate that at least 17.5 million Latinos, constituting 14.7% of eligible voters, will cast ballots nationwide in November.

During the webinar, Dr. Eduardo Gamarra, the founding director of the Latino Public Opinion Forum and lead researcher at FIU, presented the results of the research from a new study, co-sponsored by Adsmovil along with FIU’s Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom. This study, titled “Hispanic Voices: Annual Survey of Hispanics in the United States, July 2024,” surveyed individuals from the ten states with the largest populations of Hispanic voters. The survey was conducted between July 1 and July 11, 2024.

“This study is fascinating as it was implemented post-presidential debate. I found it noteworthy that though the Hispanic electorate remains primarily Democrat at almost 47%, party fidelity is waning. Of those who reported switching parties last year, 32% reported switching from the Democratic party to the Republican party. Of those Hispanics who switched parties, the top of the ticket is where they’ve lost confidence. An overwhelming 60% believe President Biden should be replaced as a candidate, and 46% think Vice President Harris should replace him.  So, it’s clear that the Hispanic electorate will be focused on the top of the ticket come November, and other issues, though important, will be secondary,” explained Dr. Gamarra.

Dr. Gamarra discussed the nuances of the Hispanic voter and provided a detailed analysis of the survey results, which revealed:

  • Hispanics remain primarily Democrats. Of those surveyed, 47% identified as Democrats, and 54% identified the Democratic Party as best representing their values.
  • 32% of Hispanics who switched from the Democratic to the Republican Party did so because they lost confidence in Democratic leadership.
  • Over 42% of respondents hold a more negative opinion of President Biden than when he was sworn in four years ago, although 41% indicated they would still vote for him in November.
  • 43% of those surveyed have an unfavorable opinion of former President Donald Trump.
  • Over half (60%) believe President Biden should be replaced as a candidate.
  • Vice President Kamala Harris is considered Biden’s best replacement, with a higher favorability score (52.5%) than President Biden (49%).

“Hispanics are the second largest group of voting-age Americans, representing close to 18 million votes this election cycle. Today, they are geographically dispersed across every state in the nation and will play a critical role come November,” said Alberto Pardo, Founder and CEO of Adsmovil. “At Adsmovil, we’ve been committed to demystifying this multifaceted Hispanic cohort since our inception, and with this study, we continue to elucidate insights surrounding the Hispanic voter. We are grateful to continue this commitment with Dr. Gamarra and his knowledgeable team.”
